Atmospheric storage tanks must be adequately vented to prevent vacuum or pressure conditions that could exceed the design requirements. A change in conditions could be caused by filling or draining the tank or a difference in atmospheric conditions inside and outside the tank. These vents provide the desired ventilation while preventing outside contaminants from entering the tank. For certain chemicals, additional precautions may be required in the ventilation installation.
