Switches can be set to normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC). An ohmmeter or continuity tester can be used to verify switch setting and operation by connecting the meter to the leads, and with the float hanging down on the clip, check the meter. If the meter indicates a Short or "Closed Circuit," the switch is set normally closed and will open on rising liquid.
